We have invited a few appointed actuaries to attend Actuary Today for the benefit of those who are interested in gaining some perspective regarding the actuarial world.
8. I am currently a SPM/pre-U student, what can I gain if I participate in Actuary Today?
You will be exposed to the core principles in actuarial science and be able to evaluate whether or not Actuarial Science is a suitable course for you.
9. I am currently a first/second year actuarial undergraduate student. What can I gain if I participate in Actuary Today?
You will be able to gain some skills to prepare yourself for the professional examinations, know more about the path to be an actuarial professional as well as the current issues in actuarial industry.

Apart from introducing Actuarial Science to the general public, the goal of Actuary Today is also to shed new light regarding the job prospects of the actuarial profession to the public. We find this necessary as we notice that the public often has misconceptions towards this profession.

A B O U T - U S
which mention whom we truly are
Ever since its establishment, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) strives to provide our community with an affordable, yet quality education. Aiming to reach out to students of various interests, UTAR has introduced many new courses over these past few years. One of them is a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science which has gained a lot of enrolment recently. A large percentage of these people have the dreams and aspirations of being an actuary in the future. Therefore, through this program, Actuary Today, we wish to shed new light towards this profession as well as to clear up any doubts and misunderstandings regarding it.
This brings us to the theme of our exposition which is “Unfold the Untold”. Literally, it means to bring another perspective regarding this profession to the public. Meanwhile, we also aim to provide the students of actuarial science with beneficial information which will help them in future. At the same time, we hope to foster a good relationship between the industry and the academic field.
Over a period of 2 days, we seek to meet the main objectives of Actuary Today through 3 sub-events, namely Actuarial Exposition, Actuarial Challenge, and Actuarial Competition. Through Actuarial Exposition, we intend on providing comprehensive and unbiased information regarding the actuarial profession to all those who are interested and this will be held on the 23rd and 24th of July 2011. Actuarial Challenge on the other hand is designed to provide opportunities for actuarial students to seek knowledge outside of what they learn in their actuarial courses from actuarial practitioners and this will also be held on the 23rd and 24th of July 2011. As for Actuarial Competition, our intent is to provide opportunities for prospective actuarial students to gauge their interest in the actuarial profession and will be held on the last day of the program, 24th of July 2011.

This event is to give students a rough idea of the world of Actuarial Science and to open up the minds of the youth towards this profession. Students will be given some study notes beforehand regarding some basic knowledge of Actuarial Science which will be used during the competition. Students will then be required to attempt a set of 30 multiple choice questions to evaluate their respective reasoning capability, logic as well as their level of knowledge.
